Manchester United vs Arsenal : FA Cup : Preview.
The sixth round of the FA Cup takes place this weekend and the highlight of the round is the clash between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford. After being dumped out of the Champions League in midweek Arsenal could be forgiven for feeling a little deflated but they will have to pick themselves up quickly as Manchester United won’t do them any favours here.
Although Arsenal will still be hurting from that defeat during the week Manchester United are also having to lick their wounds right now. They have lost their last two matches, to Chelsea and Liverpool, so they may also be feeling a little sorry for themselves. Both those matches were away ties however and they have been much more comfortable at home this season so Sir Alex Ferguson will expect a strong performance against Arsenal from his side.
These two have faced each other fourteen times before in the FA Cup with both sides coming out victorious on six occasions. Their most recent encounter in the FA Cup was in February 2008 which Manchester United won rather handsomely 4-0. In fact Arsenal have not beaten Manchester United in their last six matches against them and have lost the last three.
Nani has been ruled out of facing Arsenal after he suffered a gashed leg as a result of a Jamie Carragher challenge in last weeks clash with Liverpool. Rio Ferdinand also continues to remain out for Manchester United with a calf injury as does Park Ji-sung with a hamstring problem.
The big absentee for Arsenal is Cesc Fabregas who has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem. Wojciech Szczesny is also out after dislocating his finger but Robin van Persie will face Manchester United and is also expected to skipper the side.
